A routine traffic stop in Saratoga County prompted by an automated license plate reader alert on Sunday afternoon in Malta led to significant charges against Angel Gifford of Hoosick Falls. The stop occurred on State Route 9P around 2:53 p.m., initiated because the system indicated a suspended registration.
Upon further investigation, authorities discovered that Gifford was in possession of a controlled substance. She is now facing serious felony charges including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree (a Class D felony) and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child (Class A misdemeanors). The charges stem from the discovery of 500 milligrams or more of cocaine, which Gifford is alleged to have knowingly possessed while driving.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that two children were present in the vehicle during the stop, and evidence of narcotic use was found inside. Gifford was arraigned in Malta Town Court and released on her own recognizance. She was later transferred to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to face a warrant. This case highlights the potential serious consequences of drug-related offenses involving children.
