Saratoga County is invited to help keep our local riverbanks clean this Saturday during the 15th annual River Sweep, a statewide initiative organized by Riverkeeper to protect the Hudson River’s health.
Two local spots are hosting clean-up events. In South Glens Falls, Common Roots Brewing Company and the Common Roots Foundation are partnering for a cleanup at the Betar River Walkway, their fifth year participating. Meet at the Biergarten on Saratoga Avenue at 10:45 a.m. for supplies, and help from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers aged 21+ get a complimentary beer. The Betar River Walkway cleanup is also pet and child-friendly, with supervision required.
Down the road, Hudson Crossing Park is hosting its annual Sweep cleanup on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., rain or shine. Meet at the pavilion near the parking lot past Lock 5. This is the third year for this location. Volunteers will remove debris, tackle invasive species removal, and plant native vegetation. Hudson Crossing’s event is held on May 9 this year due to scheduling.
These local efforts are part of a larger volunteer effort that has completed over 1,463 projects and removed thousands of pounds of debris and planted thousands of native plants across the state over the last 14 years. Pre-registration is requested for Hudson Crossing Park, but everyone is welcome at the Betar River Walkway event. Join the fun and help keep our rivers beautiful!
