A Saratoga County resident is facing serious charges after attempting to cash forged U.S. Treasury bonds. Sharon Cassant, 64 of Gansevoort, is accused of presenting fake bonds to a Wilton-area credit union and trying to withdraw thousands of dollars.
According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Cassant allegedly attempted to cash a check for $35,000 on March 6th and another $10,000 check on March 9th at Broadview Federal Credit Union. These actions constitute multiple felony charges, including grand larceny and criminal possession of forged instruments.
Cassant was arrested on April 2nd and arraigned in Wilton Town Court. She was released on no bail pending further investigation and court proceedings. While the incident occurred in Wilton, the reminder of potential fraud is relevant to the entire Saratoga County community.
