A South Glens Falls man faces serious charges after a grand jury indicted him on Friday for attempted murder and other offenses stemming from an alleged violent attack on his 77-year-old mother on February 18th. Aaron G. Gookin, 40, is accused of a violent altercation with his mother, whom he reportedly lived with.
District Attorney Brett Eby stated the incident began when Gookin’s mother tried to stop him from sending money to an online scammer. According to the indictment, Gookin allegedly strangled his mother and then hit her in the head with a piece of wood, causing serious injuries.
The charges include second-degree attempted murder and first-degree attempted assault. Gookin was also indicted on counts of second-degree strangulation and two counts of second-degree assault, alongside various misdemeanors. District Attorney Brett Eby described the attack as “deeply disturbing and violent,” emphasizing the community’s commitment to supporting the victim.
This case is being handled by the Special Victims Unit and Assistant District Attorney Emily Williams. Gookin is scheduled to appear in Saratoga County Court for arraignment on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m.
