Saratoga County District Attorney Brett Eby announced Friday that Aaron G. Gookin, a 40-year-old South Glens Falls man, has been indicted on charges including attempted murder following an alleged violent incident with his 77-year-old mother on February 18th. The indictment, returned by a grand jury, accuses Gookin of a violent attack that left his mother seriously injured after an altercation stemming from her attempt to stop him from sending money to an online scammer.
According to the District Attorney’s office, the altercation occurred between Gookin and his mother, with whom he was reportedly living. The charges brought against Gookin include second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree strangulation, two counts of second-degree assault, and other misdemeanors. The alleged acts involved strangling and hitting his mother in the head with a piece of wood.
The District Attorney’s office described the attack as “deeply disturbing and violent,” emphasizing their commitment to supporting the victim, a vulnerable elderly member of the community. The case is being prosecuted by the Special Victims Unit and Assistant District Attorney Emily Williams. Gookin is scheduled for arraignment in Saratoga County Court on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
