Vanderheyden and Chinese Community Center Partner To Train Peer Advocates

Vanderheyden is excited to announce a partnership with the Chinese Community Center of Albany to train Youth and Family Peer Advocates. This initiative, made possible by a state-funded grant from the Office of Mental Health, aims to boost the number of trained Peer Advocates across New York State.

With a $275,000 grant, Vanderheyden is collaborating with five grassroots organizations, including the Chinese Community Center, across six counties. The Chinese Community Center, a vital resource for Capital Region Chinese and AAPI communities, will help spread the word through culturally engaging events like bubble tea gatherings and calligraphy workshops.

This program offers stipends totaling up to $2,250 for completing the three levels of training. It creates valuable opportunities for young people and families in the AAPI community, empowering them with skills to support peers facing mental health challenges and ensuring these vital services are more accessible and culturally appropriate.
