Big congratulations from the Saratoga Spark to the Russell Sage Gators! In a true county celebration, the Empire 8 Conference champions swept four of the five major baseball awards, announced recently. Head coach Matt Marsh and his staff were rightfully named the Coaching Staff of the Year for their incredible first championship season.
Leading the way was a stellar senior class from Russell Sage: Evan Grimes earned Pitcher of the Year honors for his dominant performance on the mound, Collin Casey was recognized as the E8 Defensive Player of the Year behind the plate, and Nick Irizarry made an outstanding debut as the Rookie of the Year. While St. John Fisher’s Jack Griffin took home the Player of the Year award, Russell Sage dominated the individual accolades.
This incredible achievement marks Russell Sage’s first Empire 8 title and the team’s trip to the NCAA Tournament with a strong 36-6 record. Well done to the Gators, their coaches, and all the players honored for their outstanding contributions this season!
