Gail Cummings-Danson is set to retire from Skidmore College in August 2026, concluding a remarkable 21-year tenure as Director of Athletics and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping the athletic department and strengthening the entire Saratoga Springs campus community.
During her time at Skidmore, Cummings-Danson played a vital role in elevating athletics. She expanded coaching and support staff, enhanced numerous sports programs, and spearheaded initiatives like the Thoroughbred Society (recognizing high-achieving student-athletes) and the Lead Like a Thoroughbred leadership program. Major facility upgrades, including the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center and renovations to the Valentine Boathouse, also occurred under her guidance.
President Marc C. Conner highlighted her profound impact, calling her leadership “shaping Skidmore in lasting ways” and noting her dedication to students and staff. Cummings-Danson expressed pride in their collective accomplishments and her gratitude for the privilege of serving the college.
