Mat Williamson got off to a fast start and showed everyone the road to the Super DIRTcar Series championship goes through him! The St. Catharines, Ontario driver stormed past Matt Delorenzo on Lap 28 and held on to win Friday’s 61st Season Opener at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.
Delorenzo took the early lead, but a lap four caution allowed Williamson his chance. He capitalized on the restart, navigating traffic with ease for 15 laps before a lap 22 caution gave Williamson the break he needed. He expertly drove underneath Delorenzo to take the lead, showcasing his speed and determination throughout the race.
While Williamson held on for the win, Delorenzo put on a strong performance, matching his best-career finish. Both drivers acknowledged the intensity of the battle, highlighting the competitive nature of Modified racing at the track. Williamson scored his 39th career Super DIRTcar Series victory.
