Russell Sage College’s baseball team has achieved a significant milestone, securing their highest single-season win total in program history with a three-game sweep of St. John Fisher College. The decisive doubleheader victories on Sunday pushed the Gators’ record to an impressive 29-5 overall and 18-1 in Empire Rediviva Division VIII play, besting the previous mark of 27 wins set just last season.
The sweep was highlighted by strong pitching and offensive production. In the first game, a dominant 13-3 win saw every starting player get a hit, led by Evan Grimes’ three hits and two RBIs. Aidan Green earned his fifth win with a seven-inning complete game strikeout performance. The second game was more defensive, a 5-2 victory where Nick Irizarry and Anthony Rizzo each added three hits, and Greg Mays earned his fourth save.
Head Coach Matt Marsh praised his team’s consistent effort, emphasizing a focus on daily preparation rather than momentum. He highlighted the resilience shown by the starting pitchers and the team’s ability to score in different ways. The Gators, leading the Empire 8 Conference, next face Skidmore College on Tuesday as they continue their non-conference schedule.
