Russell Sage College baseball punched their ticket to history with a three-game sweep of St. John Fisher, securing the program’s highest single-season win total! With a 29-5/18-1 E8 record, the Gators surpassed their own previous mark of 27 wins.
The historic wins came in a doubleheader on Sunday. Russell Sage exploded for 13 runs in a 13-3 win (using the run rule) in game one, where every starter got a hit, led by Evan Grimes’ three hits and two RBIs. A 5-2 victory in game two completed the sweep. Senior pitcher Aidan Green earned his fifth win with a seven-inning complete game including seven strikeouts in game one.
Overall, the offense showed its strength, highlighted by Nick Irizarry’s two steals and Anthony Rizzo’s three hits. Key RBIs were driven in by Grimes, Karpierz, and Kennedy, while Xavier Garcia picked up his fourth save. Head Coach Matt Marsh praised his team’s consistent effort and toughness throughout the games.
Russell Sage now shifts focus to wrapping up their non-conference schedule, returning to the diamond Tuesday against Skidmore. The team maintains a two-game lead in the Empire 8 conference standings.
