The St. John Fisher University women’s rowing team recently competed in the New York State Collegiate Championships in Saratoga Springs, facing off against other teams on Fish Creek over the weekend.
The Cardinals’ Varsity 4 crew had a challenging start, competing against Division I programs Syracuse and LIU in a tough heat. Despite an equipment issue during the race, they finished fifth. Later in the Varsity 4 Third-Level Final, they secured a fourth place finish.
Fisher’s other Varsity 4 boat also competed against Colgate, Marist, and Union, navigating difficult headwinds and placing fifth overall. Coach Jon Covney noted that the experience against high-level competition will be very beneficial for the team’s development, especially as they are still relatively young this spring. The Cardinals are next scheduled to compete at Ithaca College.
