Syracuse University’s women’s rowing team brought home the victory at the Varsity 4+ event at the New York State Collegiate Championships held in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, April 18. The Orange secured first place with a winning time of 8:51.100 in the final race, showcasing impressive speed right here in our county.
The winning crew included Eve O’Sullivan in the four seat, Lily Thorpe in the three seat, Nora Devine in the two seat, and Lea Guttormson in the first seat, all pulling together under the guidance of cox Kate Yolken. It was a strong performance, as they also posted the top time in the preliminary heats with an impressive 8:10.130.
Marist secured second place with a time of 8:59.733, followed by Union in third. Other teams competing were Marist, Union, Colgate, Long Island, Canisius, and several other institutions. This strong showing solidifies Syracuse’s position, as they now advance to compete against Ohio State and Michigan in the upcoming Big Ten/ACC Double Dual in Ann Arbor next week.
