The RIT men’s rowing team brought home some impressive hardware from the New York State Collegiate Championships held this past Saturday in Saratoga Springs. The Tigers competed across multiple events, showcasing their talent on the Schuylkill Canal.
The top Varsity 8+ crew advanced to the final after a promising third-place finish in their heat, though they were forced to withdraw once the race began due to an unfortunate equipment malfunction. In the Second Varsity 8+, RIT showed marked improvement, finishing fifth overall against tough competition, crossing the line in 7:12.88. Their Frosh/Novice 4+ crew also earned their first collegiate race completed, placing fifth.
Excitement was also high in the men’s Double event, with two crews earning fourth and second place finishes in their respective finals. The most notable result came in the Pair (2-), where Riley McMichael and Sam Ferreira secured the state title, while Nicholas Staley and Nick Ricotta claimed third. This strong showing earned RIT the state championship title in the Pair category.
Keep an eye out for the Tigers back on the local waters this Sunday, April 26th, as they head to the Genesee River to race Rochester and St. Lawrence.
