The 5-year-old trotter, driven by his regular pilot and trained by Dan Daley, showed no rustiness, taking control early and setting a fast pace.
Fringed started strong, going untouchable in the first half-mile (:57.1) before facing a challenge from the heavily favored Platinum As, who got close but didn’t get the better of him. The son of Fringeg showed impressive staying power, holding his ground over the final stretch to win decisively in a time of 1:56.2. But Why, coming off back-to-back wins, finished third after closing late.
