It is with sadness that we share the passing of Sheryl Jean Zemanek, 76, who passed away March 2, 2026, at Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs. A resident of the county, Sheryl was well-known for her warm smile and adventurous spirit.
Before her retirement in 2001, Sheryl dedicated her career to teaching, spending many years at Lake Avenue Elementary School in Saratoga Springs, primarily teaching second and third grade. She had a Master’s degree in Special Education and even completed her student teaching in England. Her love of learning and children extended beyond the classroom.
Sheryl was described as kind, adventurous, and social, making friends easily. She enjoyed life immensely, whether exploring the northeast, taking cruises (including one to Australia for her 60th birthday), or spending summers on the North Fork. She also cherished horses and supported equine-assisted therapy. Active in community centers and a member of the Red Hat Society, she was a vibrant member of the Saratoga County community until her death.
