Beat the Winter Blues warmed things up in Highgate! The annual fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Vermont & Northeast New York, held at the Highgate Sports Arena, successfully raised more than $103,000 for local wish kids. This year’s event brought together 500 community members for an evening filled with auctions, dinner, and live music, proving to be another strong year for this beloved cause.
Organized by a dedicated team led by local volunteers Adam Kane and Andrea Sartwell (with Patty Rainville as a founding spirit), the fundraiser continues its long history of supporting Make-A-Wish. The success was celebrated with gratitude expressed by Jamie Hathaway, the president and CEO, who highlighted the community’s two-decade commitment to helping children facing critical illnesses.
The funds raised will directly support the wish grants for children in the region. Attendees were also treated to a heartfelt speech by Katie Morits, whose son Kasen, a heart transplant survivor, shared how his wish for a pool has brought immense joy during his recovery. Kasen’s story is just one example of the life-changing impact of Make-A-Wish.
Make-A-Wish Vermont & Northeast New York, based out of Shelburne and Saratoga Springs, has granted nearly 3,500 wishes since 1986, serving children across a wide area. This significant contribution brings the Beat the Winter Blues total fundraising efforts to nearly $650,000 so far. It’s a wonderful reminder of how community spirit and generosity can create real magic for children.
