Get ready to get your hands a little dirty! Sustainable Saratoga is back for its 15th annual Tree Toga event on Saturday, April 25th, celebrating Arbor Day and bringing the community together to plant trees in Saratoga Springs. This popular volunteer opportunity takes place rain or shine, beginning at 9 a.m. at Pitney Meadows Community Farm.
Once you check in, you’ll receive a planting lesson and a group photo, then you’ll head out in small teams to plant trees throughout the city. This year’s kickoff features a drum circle with EarthBeat Music. The event encourages all ages to participate and learn about these vital urban forest trees. Over 200 volunteers usually join the fun each year!
The trees planted, like Northern Red Oak and Basswood, are chosen for their size, shade, and native qualities, contributing significantly to Saratoga Springs’ environment. These large shade trees offer lasting beauty and important benefits such as reducing energy use, improving air quality, managing stormwater, and supporting wildlife. Planting diverse types helps protect our city’s urban forest against potential threats.

You can join as a tree planter, welcome a new sapling onto your property as a Tree Host, become a Tree Caregiver to look after a tree through the summer, or help out with the event setup as part of the team.
