Gail Cummings-Danson, the director of athletics at Skidmore College, is retiring after 21 years in the role. Announced on April 6th, her last day will be August 2026. Cummings-Danson cited the evolving landscape of higher education and college sports as factors in her decision.
For two decades, Cummings-Danson has been a constant presence at Skidmore, guiding its athletic programs and facilities. She expressed deep gratitude for her time at the college, mentioning her privilege alongside “outstanding administrators, faculty, staff, and the best athletic department.” Her retirement marks the end of a significant chapter for the Thoroughbreds.
The search for her successor is underway as the college looks forward. Cummings-Danson feels “great pride” in the accomplishments during her tenure and looks forward to cheering on the team in retirement. The athletic department will soon begin the search for its next leader.
