Saratoga County is remembering Sandra A. Merchant, a longtime resident of Ballston Spa who passed away on February 1, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on July 5, 1942, in Ballston Spa to Horace and Edna Merchant, Sandra lived most of her life in the area she loved.
Known for her compassionate spirit, Sandra pursued a dedicated career in nursing. She attended nursing school at Albany Medical Center and worked as a registered nurse in Maine for many years before embarking on a remarkable mission as a missionary nurse in Thailand.
While Sandra is remembered for her professional achievements and her adventurous service, her family was undoubtedly her foundation. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Perry, her brother, Kenneth Merchant, and her nieces and nephews, all of whom cherish her memory.
