Saratoga County is mourning the loss of Sandra A. Merchant, a longtime resident of Ballston Spa who passed away on February 1, 2026, at the age of 83. Born in Ballston Spa on July 5, 1942, to Horace and Edna Merchant, Sandy lived much of her life in the area.
Known for her compassionate nature, Sandra pursued a career in nursing. She attended nursing school at Albany Medical Center and worked as a registered nurse in Maine for many years before taking on the role of a missionary nurse in Thailand, dedicating her skills to helping others across the globe.
Surviving Sandra are her sister, Marilyn Perry, her brother Kenneth Merchant, and several nieces and nephews. A private family service has been held, and she will be laid to rest at the Ballston Spa Cemetery. Sandra’s family invites friends to share memories of her life, marked by service and kindness.
