Our community says goodbye to a longtime resident and friend, Howard C. Abraham, who passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the age of 78. A lifelong Amherst County resident, Howard was known for his dedication to the area and his warm presence.
Howard’s career was closely tied to the local industry; he spent nearly two decades at Perth Lumber Company before purchasing and operating Howard’s Pump Service, a business he ran successfully until retiring in 2013. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Allen’s Adirondack Gas Engine Show and the Pioneer Gas Engine Association, often enjoyed attending shows himself, and found peace in gardening, hiking, and spending time on the family farm.
Howard is survived by his wife, Darla, daughters, sisters, brothers, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also close to his lifelong friend, Richard Maines. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home in Johnstown.
